Joke Du Jour

Did you hear about the teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his boots? The little boy asked for help, and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the boots still didn't want to go on. By the time the second boot finally was on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost whimpered when the little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet." She looked, and sure enough, they were.

It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet. He then announced, "These aren't my boots." She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream,"Why didn't you say so?!!" like she wanted to. Once again she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off. He then said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear them."

She didn't know if she should laugh or cry. She mustered up her last-remaining grace and courage and helped the little boy to wrestle the boots on his feet again. She said, "Now, where are your mittens?" He said, "I stuffed them in the toes of my boots..." Her trial starts next month.

Suicide Joke

Ski Lift Joke

As a concierge at a posh resort, I was often asked about the ski facilities. One day a couple who had just checked in after a long flight came by and asked me where the lift was. "Go down the hill," I told them, "out the door, past the pool, 200 yards down the block, and you'll see it on your right." Their tired faces suddenly looked even more exhausted, until the man behind them spoke up. "They're from England," he said. "I think they're looking for the elevator."

Marina Loans

My private money commercial mortgage company, Blackburne & Sons, is making a large loan on a marina this month. In doing some research on marinas, I learned a few things.

Did you know that the adjacent property owners do not own the land beneath rivers, streams, and lakes? The river beds, stream beds, and lake beds, up to the high-water mark, are owned by the state in trust for the public. The land under the ocean, up to the high-water mark, is owned by the Federal government.

Therefore, if you wanted to build (or maintain) a marina on a river or a lake, you would need to apply to the State Water Resources Board (or similiar agency) for a permit. If you wanted to build (or maintain) a marina on the ocean, you would have to apply for a permit to the Corps of Engineers.

This marina loan that we're making this month looks like a good deal. Please bring us some more.

Church Gossip Joke

Mildred, the church gossip and self-appointed Monitor of the Church's Morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several members did not approve of her extra-curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence. She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told George (and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing. George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing. Later that evening, George quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house, walked home, and left it there all night.

Nurse Joke

Catherine, a RN, was unhappy with her job, so she submitted her resignation. She was sure she'd have no trouble finding a new position because of the nursing shortage in her area. She e-mailed cover letters to dozens of potential employers and attached her resume to each one. Two weeks later, Catherine was dismayed and bewildered that she had not received even one request for an interview. Finally she received a message from a prospective employer that explained the reason she hadn't heard from anyone else. It read: "Your resume was not attached as stated. I do, however, want to thank you for the vegetable lasagna recipe."

Seat Belts Joke

Flying to Los Angeles from San Francisco the other day, a passenger noticed that the "Fasten Seat Belts" sign was kept lit during the whole journey, even though the flight was a particularly smooth one.
